Finish isn't bad for rather inexpensive nicely designed shoe rack. I actually lightly sanded mine with emery cloth and then coated with a wipe on poly finish. Did that so it would be better protected against shoes that might be slightly damp on the bottom, or mildy dusty or dirty. Been using mine for 2 years now, still look like new! You can also stack a second one, use your imagination, leave of one shelf and flip it over. Now you have a tall shelf in the middle for hiking boots. I'm buying a 3rd one, they're great racks!
